Description
Forbidden Fruit (Paramount, 1921), Agnes Ayres in Gown by Natasha Rambova 13.5" x 10.5" Original Custom Studio Photographs (2) by Karl Struss. Cecil B. DeMille Estate. Vintage gelatin silver borderless matte 13.5" x 10.5" custom studio photographs (hand-tipped to 15.5" x 19" manila mount with beveled inset) of Agnes Ayres in a Natasha Rambova gown, by Karl Struss, signed "Karl Struss" in graphite on the mount recto. Selected by Alfred Stieglitz for the Albright Art Gallery International Exhibition of Pictorial Photography in 1910, the final exhibition of the Photo-Secession, Struss was stills cameraman for DeMille in Male and Female (1919) through Fool's Paradise (1921). His career peak came in 1927, for Sunrise: A Tale of Two Humans (Fox-Film, 1927), winning the Academy Award for Cinematography. Referred to in Cecil B. DeMille: The Art of the Hollywood Epic, December 2014, by Cecilia de Mille Presley and Mark A. Vieira, pp. 91-92. Pieces exhibit tears and corner bumps. From the Estate of Cecil B. DeMille.
