Description
Joan the Woman (Paramount, 1916), One Sheet Poster. Vintage original 28.25" x 42" one sheet movie poster. Joan the Woman marked a major turning point in Cecil B. DeMille's career, establishing him as a master of the historical epic and a pioneer of cinematic spectacle. The film, starring opera diva Geraldine Farrar as Joan of Arc, was one of the earliest feature-length portrayals of the French heroine and used a World War I framing device to draw modern parallels to her story. DeMille's flair for grand storytelling and moral drama was on full display, with lavish sets, stirring battle scenes, and a deep sense of spiritual urgency. Notably, the film featured early use of the Handschiegl Color Process-billed at the time as the "Wyckoff-DeMille Process"-to highlight key scenes with dramatic, hand-colored effects. This innovative use of color added to the film's emotional impact and visual spectacle, helping cement DeMille's reputation as a director unafraid to experiment with emerging technologies in service of epic, emotionally resonant storytelling. This style of poster is a first-time offering from Heritage Auctions. Backed to linen, which has been trimmed to the poster's border. Edge chipping, tears, and fold wear have all been addressed by professional restoration, resulting in a poster that presents beautifully. Fine- condition.
