Description

Batman UK Fairground Batmobile (Harpe Peele, 1966). This Fairground ride Batmobile was made in England in 1966 by Harpe Peel Ltd, a company of that period that specialized in the manufacture of TV/movie tie-in amusement park rides. Earlier, the company had produced rides associated with Dr. Who, The Flintstones, and The Beatles' Yellow Submarine. Although a number of these vehicles were thought to have been made, this particular one is the last known survivor. Originally, it was part of a merry-go-round ride in Blackpool, Britain's premier seaside resort town in the north of England, but had remained in storage until it was discovered nearly 30 years later. Although it is the same size as its US counterpart, it is undoubtedly rarer. Several of the latter are known to exist and reside in collections throughout the United States. The shape of this Batmobile is also much closer to the original TV vehicle than its US cousin, right down to the raised Bat-hubs on the wheels. The dimensions are 5'9" long by 2'7" wide by 2'2" tall, and the shell is made entirely of fiberglass. It is in beautiful condition and retains a high-gloss finish which will make it the centerpiece of any Batman collection. Special shipping arrangements will apply. Provenance: From the Ed Kelly Collection. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
