Ghostbusters (Columbia, 1984), Stay Puft Marshmallow Man Animatronic Hand. Original animatronic Stay Puft Marshmallow Man hand measuring 53" x 11" x 8.5", constructed of foam rubber over a wood armature, extending metal latticework, steel cable wiring, and designed to extend and have the fingers actuate by puppeteers during production. Built by Special Effects Supervisor, Richard Edlund and his skilled team of effects artists, this animatronic was used for insert shots of the cuddly-looking creature's hand when it was engulfed in flames and too dangerous for a suit performer. Featured at the climax of the film as a giant, immolated Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, the physical manifestation of Gozer, climbs the 550 Central Park West building in pursuit of the titular Ghostbusters team. Animatronic displays considerable production wear and fire damage with deterioration and hardening of the foam rubber components, leaving them in a brittle condition.
