Alice N Chains 1987 Kane Hall Seattle Concert Poster. The band name is very familiar, but this is not the quartet we all know from such hits as "Man in the Box," "Them Bones," and "Would?" This was a band called Alice N Chains (spelled in no relation to how Guns N' Roses spelled their name) and they were hair metal of the day. Seated in the band photo on the far right is a very young Layne Staley, who would later front the Alice in Chains we know. Playing Kane Hall for a meager $4, this was a metal show with a sound that was not considered hip with the burgeoning Seattle "sound." But in retrospect, this serves as a critical documentation between Alice N Chains and Alice in Chains. When Alice N Chains (formerly known as "Sleze" per the poster) was about to end, Staley formed a new band with guitarist Jerry Cantrell and drummer Sean Kinney. They went through a few names and decided to name themselves Alice in Chains.
