E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial (Universal, 1982), Final Pencil Illustration for One Sheet Movie Poster by John Alvin. Original full-size pencil artwork for John Alvin's final poster design for the timeless 1982 classic, E.T. The Extra Terrestrial. Directed by Steven Spielberg, E.T. is a beloved classic that captures the wonder, innocence, and emotional depth of childhood through the story of a stranded alien and the boy who befriends him. John Alvin's iconic poster, featuring the glowing fingertips of E.T. and Elliott reaching toward each other, perfectly encapsulates the film's themes of connection and magic. The image became an instant symbol of the movie and helped define its identity in popular culture. Alvin's ability to distill emotion and story into a single, powerful image contributed to the film's lasting impact. Decades later, E.T. remains a touchstone of 1980s cinema and a testament to the power of imaginative storytelling and timeless artwork. Offered here is Alvin's final graphite for the movie poster, including many of his notes on color and treatment that would make it into the final design. The design itself is in graphite, while the title treatment and notes are in blue and red ink, respectively. Additionally, this poster is autographed by composer John Williams at lower left. Signed by the artist at lower right. Some small smudges and light creases. Presents beautifully. Alvin created this piece at one-to-one size, measuring 26" x 40". Framed to 37" x 51.5". A remarkable piece of film history. Illustrated in The Art of John Alvin. Comes with COAs from Andrea Alvin and Heritage Auctions.
