Description

Chi-Lites / Delfonics / Chairmen of the Board 1970 Chicago Jumbo Concert Poster. An original jumbo window card advertising a host of R&B and pop-star crossover acts at the Capitol Theatre in Chicago, IL for a full week commencing Friday, April 24, 1970.

Although the Chi-Lites had a much bigger career, at this early stage the Delfonics took top billing based on their very recent Top 10 pop hit "Didn't I (Blow Your Mind This Time)," as well as their previous Top 5 pop hit "La-La Means I Love You."

The Chi-Lites were so new they'd had only one Top 10 R&B hit so far, "Give It Away," plugged on the poster. They'd eventually break through to the mainstream with the Top 5 pop hits "Have You Seen Her" and "Oh Girl."

The Detroit Emeralds would enjoy a handful of Top 10 R&B hits themselves over the next few years. And everyone knows the Chairmen of the Board's "Give Me Just a Little More Time," a #3 pop smash. And the hits still aren't over yet. Eddie Holman chose to list his brand new single on the poster, but he just as easily could've put "Hey There Lonely Girl," a #2 pop smash from just a couple of months earlier.

A very scarce piece making its first-ever appearance in a Heritage auction. Measures 22" x 28" and grades to a strong, beautiful Near Mint condition, with only a small crease to the upper left corner, light toning around three margins and medium toning along the top margin. COA from Heritage Auctions.
