Description
Beatles Signed (with Jimmie Nicol) BEA In-Flight Bulletin (June 7, 1964), in Matted Display. A 10.625" x 8.125" printed sheet from British European Airways, filled in by hand (in carbon) during the Beatles' flight from Amsterdam to London after the June 6 concert there on the first leg of their 1964 World Tour. The Beatles have autographed it in black ink: "Best Wishes Jimmie Nicol", "Paul McCartney", "John Lennon", and "George Harrison". John signed twice as his first attempt in blue ink didn't adhere to the paper. This Bulletin gives the names of the captain and cabin attendants, the type of plane (de Havilland Comet IVB), cruising altitude and speed (20,000 feet, 500 mph), current time (9:55 AM), destination and approximate arrival time (London Airport 10:15), etc. Ringo had taken sick and had to be hospitalized for tonsillitis so drummer Jimmie Nicol substituted for him on the first several stops of this tour. Multiple flattened folds and light wear, Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions. The Beatles left Amsterdam on the morning of June 7 on their way to a concert date in Hong Kong before proceeding to Australia and New Zealand. They first flew to London Airport on the flight where this was signed and then made a connection with another BEA flight to Hong Kong which had been held up for their arrival. That flight made stops in Zurich, Beirut, Karachi, Calcutta, and Bangkok before arriving in Hong Kong. At each stop, no matter the hour of day or night, crowds of fans showed up at the air terminals. The crowd in Beirut had to be held back by local police using fire-fighting foam. Beatlemania was now a worldwide phenomenon.
