Description
Parliament, Funkadelic 1976 New Orleans Jumbo Globe Concert Poster. An original large cardboard window card advertising Parliament, Funkadelic, Bootsy's Rubber Band and Hugh Masekela in concert at the Municipal Auditorium in New Orleans, Louisiana on Wednesday evening, October 27, 1976. The esteemed Globe Posters of Baltimore, MD really knocked it out of the park on this one, with a board almost three feet tall and the use of green and orange Day-Glo ink colors throughout - even down to a couple of small green dashes at the bottom, very unusual. Photos, song or album titles and even names in logo format really spruce up this commanding poster. George Clinton was alive & well & funking it up something fierce. It's also great that 1976's Mothership Connection, the ensemble's biggest album ever, is plugged at the top. Measures 21 3/4" x 35" and grades to restored Very Good condition. Repair work by Chameleon Restoration. COA from Heritage Auctions.More Information: We're happy to say that the consignor of this poster is one Alan Leeds, a longtime James Brown associate and a well-respected authority in the field of Black music. Mr. Leeds was an on-camera commentator in last summer's highly acclaimed hit movie Summer of Soul.
When the poster was printed, Parliament's two latest singles were listed in their orange block: "Tear the Roof Off the Sucker," a Top 5 R&B hit, and "P. Funk (Wants to Get Funked Up)," a Top 40 charter. Bassist Bootsy Collins' Booty's Rubber Band had enjoyed their first Top 20 R&B hit this summer with "Stretchin' Out (In a Rubber Band)." Third-billed was Funkadelic, another Clinton formation who had not had much success yet, but the legendary "One Nation Under a Groove" would come two years later. And South African trumpeter Hugh Masekela had a huge hit in 1968 with "Grazing in the Grass," and the poster plugs his biggest album ever, also from '68, Promise of a Future.
Condition details: Poster was once damaged with a big tear at the top and various material damage around the edges, but rescued by Chameleon to where it looks great now. All that remains are surface creases throughout which don't break the color, and that's it. A real prize for a funk fan.
