Description

Sam & Dave, Jr. Walker 1968 Great Soul-Music Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising that dynamic soul-music duo, Sam & Dave, along with Jr. Walker and the All-Stars, Maxine Brown, the Manhattans and many others playing in West Yarmouth, Massachusetts on Thursday evening, June 27, 1968. Any vintage Sam & Dave poster that is colorful, has their picture and lists their three highly influential hits, "Soul Man," "Hold On! I'm A-Comin'" and "I Thank You," is a complete and total winner that would have Dan Akroyd and Jim Belushi green with envy. The orange color is Day-Glo, the wording is voluminous and fun, and the poster printer was Murray out of New York City. This R&B gem measures 22 1/4" x 27 3/4" and grades to Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Has these unusual words in the bottom margin under "Orch.": "Reproduction Rights Reserved." Who knows why Murray put that, but it was never reproduced and this is a total pre-show advertising piece printed in the spring of 1968. Two sitckers were used by Murray, too: the "W. Yarmouth Auditorium" orange strip and another blank white one under "8 P.M."

Condition details: A bit of dirt & grime on the white in various places, although almost none break color and most appear in the white anyway. They include 6 ½" horizontal above "All in Person" on the left; same to the right of "All in Person" and Baby I Need You" on the right; 4 inches in the upper right area of the group photo in lower right corner; 3 ½" and 1 ¼" lower right corner creases, the first one breaking color in the second "R" of "Norris"; 2 ¾" upper right corner crease, all in the white; and a few more smaller ones throughout. A vertical wrinkle in the "Yarmouth" sticker through the "R" letter in "Yarmouth" and "Crowell."
