Description

Aretha Franklin, Bobby Bland 1962 Regal Theater, Chicago Concert Poster. An original large cardboard window card advertising a week of shows at the famed Regal headlined by Bobby "Blue" Bland and supported by future superstar Aretha Franklin. It was a powerful one-two punch that surely left the audiences dazzled, although Aretha was not in her 'Queen of Soul' phase yet; she was still struggling to find her way on Columbia Records. Bobby, on the other hand, was white-hot as usual: he had started 1962 with "Turn on Your Love Light" near the top of the charts, and this fall had two other R&B top-tenners with "Yield Not to Temptation" and, currently, "Stormy Monday Blues." It's surprising to see Gene Chandler so underbilled because his "Duke of Earl" had been #1 for a month earlier in the year. A crisp, smart red & brown concert poster that we've never seen or carried before. Measures 22" x 28" and grades to Near Mint condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Only the tiniest amount of wear to the top edge in the corner areas from storage. Very slight amount of brown smudging above the "ND" in "Blandells," surely a printer's flaw.
