Marilyn Monroe "Theda Bara as Cleopatra" by Richard Avedon Artist Signed Print (First Edition, 1983). Vintage original 23" x 28" poster signed in gold ink in the lower border by photographer Richard Avedon. In 1958, famed photographer Avedon shot a seminal portrait sitting with Marilyn Monroe wherein the superstar donned the personas and fashions of film divas from the early years of Hollywood. Clara Bow, Lillian Russell, and Jean Harlow were amongst the bygone beauties portrayed, as well as the original silver screen vamp, Theda Bara. Marilyn is depicted as Bara playing the enchanting queen of Egypt, Cleopatra, in a costume that would have been as provocative to the readers of the LIFE Magazine, where the photos appeared in the December 22 issue, as it was to moviegoers in 1917. This print was part of a series of four issued by the artist in 1983, and is from the artist signed First Edition. Rolled and never folded, the piece exhibits some edge wear with light wrinkles and creasing in the borders and image. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
