Description

Zorro Evil Machete Painted & Unpainted Prototypes with Accessories (Playmates, 1997). This matched pair of prototypes captures the development process behind "Evil Machete," one of the more vividly designed villains from Playmates' short-lived Zorro toy line of the late 1990s. The lot includes an early unpainted prototype sculpt and a fully painted production sample, along with a set of painted accessories-all from the personal archive of veteran sculptor Scott Hensey, who helped bring this bold character to life. The unpainted figure reveals the raw sculptural detail before paint application, highlighting Machete's muscle-bound physique, armored gauntlet, and menacing facial expression. The painted version showcases the figure's final color scheme, complete with vibrant blue pants, silver armor, and intense red accents that frame the character's scarred visage and ruthless demeanor. Playmates' Zorro line is a cult favorite among 1990s action figure collectors, and Evil Machete, with his distinct styling and fearsome presence, is one of its standout characters. These prototypes provide a behind-the-scenes look at how this figure evolved from sculpt to shelf and represent a unique opportunity to own original developmental pieces from one of the era's great character designers.

Scotty Hensey has been a professional toy sculptor since the late 1970s, with early work at TOMY on lines like Tron and The Get-Along Gang. He later sculpted villains for Playmates' Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and created figures for Hasbro, Mattel, Galoob, and McDonald's Happy Meal toys. His fast, character-driven style has shaped some of the most iconic collectibles of the past four decades. Scott Hensey Collection
