Description
France Nuyen "Elaan" Orange Halter-Neck Dress and Jay Robinson "Ambassador Petri" Purple Silk and Lamé Costume from the Episode: "Elaan of Troyius" of Star Trek: The Original Series (Paramount TV, 1966-1969). Custom-made soft orange-colored backless gown worn by Frances Nuyen "Elaan" in Season 3 Episode 13, "Elaan of Troyius". Custom-made from silk chiffon and glitter with a deep V-neck that is open to the waist, unique skirt that drapes through the ankles with open sides, a rhinestone belted detail at the waist and back, and long chain hanging down the back from the neck with a long iridescent jewel. Two modesty panels from the bust have been carefully removed during conservation, and accompany this lot. An exquisite example of series costume designer William Ware Theiss' signature look, this sheer gown covers the body yet highlights the human form. The ensemble is in excellent, production-used, vintage condition, with some tears and fabric pulls (a result of the fabric catching on the heels of the actress's shoes during production), one small waist closure missing. Accompanied by an original costume design sketch of Elaan of Troyius, with attached orange chiffon fabric swatch, that is accomplished in colored ink marker on paper. The dress and sketch come from series costume designer William Ware Theiss' personal collection. With minor toning along edges. Dimensions: 9" x 12". Also includes Jay Robinson "Petri's" purple silk and lamé ensemble also from the episode, "Elaan of Troyius", worn while transporting "Elaan" to her wedding. This custom-made ensemble consists of a pale lavender Lurex jacket with integral pleated sash and full right sleeve fabricated in bold magenta and purple patterned satin, with large flower-shaped brooch at the top of the sash to secure it to the right shoulder. The cuffs and the front placket are trimmed in copper and golden trim. Worn with a pair of black and brown tweed pants. The top exhibits some areas of fabric loss, small areas of fabric pulling, but remains in Fine condition. Both the costume and the sketch were acquired from the William Ware Theiss estate.Heritage Auctions provides as much information as possible but strongly encourages in-person inspection.
