Description
Gone With the Wind (MGM, 1939), Walter Plunkett Costume Sketch of Vivien Leigh as "Scarlett O'Hara" in Negligee and Fur-Trimmed Purple Robe. Vintage original Gone With the Wind costume sketch accomplished in pencil, ink and gouache on 18" x 22.5" artist's board, with 15.75" x 20.75" visible through original studio-affixed 18" x 23" permanent crème-colored beveled mat. Retaining 2-fabric sample swatches affixed to the upper left corner, a silver-blue tightly pleated silk for the negligee, and blue/purple velour for the dressing robe, which the sketch indicates also had black fur trimming. The resulting costume is visible in the film when Scarlett O'Hara (Vivien Leigh) is convalescing in the Rose Arbor after her miscarriage. Signed "Plunkett" in the lower right beneath image. With studio costumer's form inkstamp, OK'd by David O. Selznick, description of film scene and numbers assigned to each element of costume and adhesive remnants all on the verso. Exhibiting bumped corners, with minor soiling and moderate age toning, including foxing throughout upper half of recto.
