An original first-printing Russ Gibb / Detroit concert poster for the Chambers Brothers, MC5 and Thyme appearing at the Grande Ballroom on September 1 & 2, 1967. This beautiful specimen has been graded an investment-quality 9.6 by CGC (Certified Guaranty Company), and was handsomely signed by the legendary poster artist Gary Grimshaw in silver pen down in the lower right corner.

The poster itself measures 13 7/8" x 21 25/32" and grades to straight Mint with its 9.6 rating. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Russ Gibb is the legendary Detroit promoter who passed away in April of last year. "Uncle Russ" was as important to Detroit's Grande Ballroom scene as Bill Graham was to the Fillmore Auditorium and Chet Helms to the Avalon Ballroom. Gibb also had a huge ace in the hole with the talents of poster designer Grimshaw, who was his Griffin, Mouse, Kelley, Wilson and Moscoso all rolled into one.

This is one of only 14 Gary Grimshaw / Detroit vintage concert-poster images depicted in the Art of Rock book (see below), among untold scores of possible candidates. Obviously the editors felt it was highly special, attractive and cool in order to make that cut.

Literature: See Grushkin, Paul, The Art of Rock: Posters from Presley to Punk, Abbeville Press, New York, 1987, p.299 (illus.).
