Description

Nightmare Alley (Fox Searchlight, 2021), Screen Used Carnival Freak Show Siamese Twins Fetus in Jar. Silicone figure of a fetus of Siamese twins expertly painted to detail with faux placenta remnants displayed on an acrylic rod fixed in the base of the prop glass jar with cloth covering secured by rope. This specimen is seen among other deformed babies in Clem Hoatley's (Willem Dafoe) tent when Molly Cahill (Rooney Mara) informs Stanton Carlisle (Bradley Cooper) that she's ready to leave the carnival and start a fresh life with him. This set piece serves as a microcosm of the film's dark themes of exploitation and moral decay. Figure measures 7.25" x 6"; specimen jar does not contain liquid. Measures 10" x 7.5" diameter. Tape affixed beneath the jar is marked, "GDT Jar 1". Exhibits minor production wear. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.

"I like unborn things in jars. I don't quite know why - I figure they are perfect metaphors for our intrinsic defects and frail soul - but there is more to that. Oddities, Deformities, Terathological specimens have always captivated me wholly (see Devil's Backbone, Hellboy, Blade II, and many others) from an aesthetic point of view: translucency, drama, omen - they are so many things. And I try to create physical props of them because part of their magic is how they catch the light..." From the personal collection of Guillermo del Toro.
