I Love Lucy (Desilu TV, 1951-1957), Desi Arnaz "Ricky Ricardo" Silk Smoking Jacket. A multi-hyphenate of epic proportions, Desi Arnaz was already on the path to widespread success before the 1951 premiere of I Love Lucy, where, alongside his real-life wife, Lucille Ball, the couple starred as the married couple Ricky and Lucy, catapulting themselves into entertainment stardom and becoming household names synonymous with sitcom television in the 1950s. The series achieved astronomical ratings as the most-watched show in the US for four of its six seasons, and was the first television series to end its run at the top of the ratings charts. This vintage original silk polka dot smoking jacket, with purple satin shawl collar and interior lining, and purple accents at the cuffs and pockets, with a matching purple wrap belt, was worn by Ricky Ricardo (Arnaz) multiple times during the second season of the show, appearing in several episodes including Episode 19, "Club Election". Exhibiting production handling, wear, and age commensurate with production-used garments including some fraying, toning, stains, and small holes. Item is accompanied by a white button down, black trousers, and black shoes for display as well as a Letter of Authenticity from Desi Arnaz on his personal letterhead, dated January 16, 1953 with an ink-stamped signature. Stewart took great pride in displaying his collection and had many custom-built mannequins in the likeness of the character made for his costumes.
