Description

Personal book-bound script for Twelve O'Clock High (20th Century-Fox, 1949). Vintage original 135-page final script dated March 30, 1949. Screenplay by Sy Bartlett and Beirne Lay, Jr., adapted from their 1948 novel. The present script was custom-bound for Mr. Peck's personal library in full burgundy calf with title and Mr. Peck's name stamped in gilt on the front board. Spine stamped in gilt with five raised bands. Decorative endpapers. With 31 gelatin silver glossy 6.875" x 8.875" production stills from the film tipped to pages bound-in. Spine is slightly sun faded with rubbing along the edges. Boards lightly scuffed and corners rubbed. Front hinge is cracked. Some of the stills are toned or show some faint spots. Very Good.

The film incorporated actual wartime combat footage for the air fight sequences, including some filmed by the Luftwaffe, and the script drew on the Eighth Air Force bomber unit experiences of screenwriters Bartlett and Lay. Gregory Peck was nominated for an Academy Award for Best Actor in a Leading Role, and the film won two Oscars for Best Actor in a Supporting Role, Dean Jagger, and Best Sound, Recording, Thomas T. Moulton.

Please note that while not a studio presentation script, the present script was custom bound for Mr. Peck's personal library and features his name stamped in gilt on the front board.
