Description
A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum (United Artists, 1966), Group of (7) Costume Design Artworks. Original group of (7) costume designs by Tony Walton rendered in ink and watercolor on art paper measuring 9.25" x 22" to 30" x 22". These seven pieces represent the original costume designs Walton created for the film version of the hit Broadway musical. Artworks feature several main characters, some designated with the actor who played the role; Hysterium (Jack Gilford), Senex (Michael Hordern), Philia (Annette Andre), and Domina's Mother (Beatrix Lehmann) and Ventriloquist. Other designs include Hero (played in the film by future Broadway "Phantom of the Opera" Michael Crawford), Domina (played by Patricia Jessel), and Domina with Miles Gloriosus (played by Leon Greene). Some designs feature Walton's notes on sizing and color with remnants of original fabric swatches. This is an incredible collection of the artist's work offering a rare glimpse into his creative process. Artwork is in production used condition including toning, tearing, creasing, smudging, and areas of loss. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.Heritage Auctions provides as much information as possible but strongly encourages in-person inspection.
