Description

Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers, Original Artwork by Bob Peak (ca. 1980s). "When you work on an assignment, you are trying to solve someone else's problem. When you paint for yourself, you try to solve your own problem."

-Bob Peak

Throughout his career, Bob Peak kept up a drawing and painting practice separate from his commercial illustration work, and a gallery show of his fine art work was mounted in 1978 at the O'Grady Galleries in Chicago, Illinois. Throughout the following decade, he increased his attention to his fine art work, and began exploring increasingly abstract styles. Building on his passion for and intimate knowledge of Hollywood, he often used scenes and figures from his favorite films as inspiration for these, as seen here in this depiction of Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers that is pure light and movement.

An epically large mixed media work, this measures 56" x 46.5" and is framed to 62.5" x 53". There is one small pinpoint abrasion to the lower center, with a contrasting finish at the top right corner, and the work is signed B. Peak lower right. Not examined outside of frame.

Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. From the Treasures from the Bob Peak Collection.
