Description
Diana Ross & the Supremes 1968 Detroit, MI Hometown Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising Motown superstars Diana Ross & the Supremes appearing in the 'Motor City' for a week's worth of shows commencing on Monday evening, May 20, 1968. Ballet America and vocalist Joe Williams were the opening acts.Poster features a graphic design very much in step with the day, including the use of purple and orange together, which was very much in vogue at the moment. It's interesting to note the broad range of ticket prices given... as very low as $2.00 all the way up to a very high $8.00, which was almost unheard of in '68. This was obviously a very big engagement, we're sure with the involvement of Berry Gordy Jr. himself, being in Detroit.
The Supes were able to draw from a stunning run of Top 10 Pop hits for these shows, including - catch your breath here - 10 #1 Pop hits up to this point: "Where Did Our Love Go," "Baby Love," "Come See About Me," "Stop! In the Name of Love," "Back in My Arms Again," "I Hear a Symphony," "You Can't Hurry Love," "You Keep Me Hangin' On," "Love Is Here and Now You're Gone" and "The Happening." We wonder if they did every #1'er at every show; we're guessing they probably did them in medley form by this point. And don't forget all the others that were "only" Top 10 hits, like "My World Is Empty Without You" and "Reflections"!
