Description
Stan Laurel Signed Letter to Roach Studios. Laurel and Hardy's stint with Hal Roach Studios in the 1930s resulted in what is widely considered to be the duo's best work; it also saw regular clashes between Laurel (the brains behind the operation) and studio head Roach, in terms of both artistic and business differences. This one-page typed letter on Laurel's personal stationery highlights one such incident. Dated March 18, 1935, it reads: "Dear Sirs: Answering yours of the fourteenth instant. I, at no time agreed the contract be terminated forthwith. Your statement, you have not been able to secure my cooperation is pure fabrication and subterfuse [sic]. I am still under contract with you, and I am prepared to continue under contract to expiration date." The letter is signed by Laurel and is in Very Fine condition with mailing creases and some wear along the edges. It is accompanied by the original mailing envelope, as well as a certified mail receipt dated March 14, 1935 and signed on the reverse by Laurel in pencil; both in Very Fine condition. Accompanied by a COA from PSA/DNA.Heritage Auctions provides as much information as possible but strongly encourages in-person inspection. Condition statements are offered as general guidance only, not as complete representations of fact, and do not constitute a warranty or assumption of liability by Heritage. Some condition issues may not be noted but may be visible in the photos, which are considered part of the condition report.
