Westmore Life Mask of Paul Muni as Emile Zola. The Life of Emile Zola (1937) is perhaps the most prestigious film produced by Warner Bros. during its golden years. The movie won the 1937 Best Picture Oscar, as well as Academy Awards for Best Supporting Actor (Joseph Schildkraut) and Best Screenplay, while Paul Muni, in the title role, won the New York Film Critics Circle Best Actor prize. Bud Westmore's brother Perc was Muni's makeup man at Warners, and this is a remarkable mask of Muni as Zola, complete with enhancements such as spectacles and beard. Mask, in faux bronze finish, measures 9" wide and 12.5" tall; Very Good condition. There are several minor nicks and scratches on hair, face, and beard, but these do not detract from either the artistry of the mask or Westmore's success in capturing Muni's eccentric majesty in the role. A fine example of Westmore's art, commemorating one of the great actors and performances of the 1930s. Accompanied by an LOA from Jeannie Westmore.
