Description
Elvis Presley Signed 1956 Movie Contract. Before his success as a singer, Elvis expressed interest in becoming an actor, and while working as a movie theater usher in his youth and would often watch James Dean, Marlon Brando, and Tony Curtis, studying their techniques.Presley screen-tested for Hal Wallis at Paramount Studios in late March, 1956. The test lasted three days and included Presley performing two scenes from The Rainmaker and lip-syncing to "Blue Suede Shoes", and earned positive responses from Wallis' partner Joe Hazen and drama coach Charlotte Clary. On April 2, Presley was offered a contract for one motion picture with options on six more. The studio was unable to find a suitable project for Presley, and he was loaned out to 20th Century-Fox in August 1956; by November he was making his screen debut in Love Me Tender.
This two-page agency contract preceded these key points in Presley's film career; dated January 31, 1956, established representation for Presley with a reputable agency, and marks an important starting point in an acting career that spanned 31 feature films over 13 years. The contract is in Very Fine to Excellent condition with very mild wear and toning, staple holes to the upper left corners, and the usual punch holes at the top edge. It has been matted and framed in a 31.5" x 40" display along with a b&w 14" x 11" photo of Elvis taken during the signing of the document. Accompanied by an LOA from PSA/DNA. Third party shipping required.
