Description

A Marilyn Monroe Possibly Worn Evening Gown from "Love Happy." United Artists, 1949. Made of a platinum-colored metallic silk, strapless, gathered bustline, pleated skirt portion, attached long tie at waist, back zipper closure, small slit in front hem, no labels or tags present; believed to be the dress worn by the then-starlet when she portrayed "Grunion's Client" in the short but funny scene where she tells Groucho Marx (as "Sam Grunion") in part, "Some men are following me." (Please note this gown has a number of issues: it is in extremely fragile condition now, portions of the bustline fabric are entirely worn away, the metallic thread is frayed, parts of the dress are slightly discolored and threadbare, and there are a few spots of staining throughout, especially on the inside lining.)

DISCLAIMER:
The current consignor inherited this gown from a close friend who passed away. That friend was a known Hollywood costume collector, but information about where, when, or how he obtained this dress is now unknown. It does seem to match up with the one worn by Monroe onscreen and in publicity photographs and the aging of the fabric seems appropriate for a 64 year old gown, however, there are no studio or costume company labels in it and its provenance is a mystery. Please bid accordingly knowing this information.
