Description

Jose Feliciano, Seals & Crofts 1969 San Diego State Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising acoustic song interpreter Jose Feliciano performing at Peterson Gym in San Diego State college on Sunday evening, December 7, 1969. Manufactured by "S.D. Poster Print," this telephone-pole poster features large, plain-block lettering on a pretty blue background, complete with a photo of of the artist up at the top.

This was the virtuoso acoustic guitarist's prime era; Feliciano charted two RCA albums in Billboard in 1968 and two more in '69. His big breakthrough came in '68 with his cover of the Doors' "Light My Fire," which crested at #3 on the Hot 100. The Puerto Rican native was raised in New York City and had been blind since birth.

Jim Seals and Dash Crofts (misspelled on the poster) were veteran musicians who had played "Tequila!" about a thousand times as members of The Champs in the late 50's and early 60's. As a duo, they finally gelled for Warner Bros. Records in the early 70's and enjoyed big hits throughout that decade, such as "Summer Breeze," "Diamond Girl" and "Get Closer," ushered along mightily by Adult Contemporary radio.

Measures 14 1/4" x 22 1/8" and grades to Very Good Minus condition. Tape lifts and some staining in three places across the top and in both bottom corner areas, all in the white margins. Some strong surface creasing in the board above "Jose," including into Feliciano's chin and another one into the part in his hair. Still another goes across the word "Board." Only the tiniest amount of blue color is broken. Some of the blue rubbed or scuffed away, such as under the end of Feliciano's name, although could also be weak ink in the printing process. All four corner tips bumped and soft. Verso has some major tape-lift action going on. COA from Heritage Auctions.
