Bob Dylan 1964 Newport Folk Festival Concert Program. An original 52-page souvenir concert program for the Newport Folk Festival running from July 23 to 26, 1964. The '64 Newport Folk Fest is the least notorious of the three that Bob Dylan attended and dominated from 1963-1965. For the first one he was a new star on a meteoric rise, and we all know what he did in '65.

But for this in 1964, Dylan performed spellbinding versions of four brand new songs not committed to vinyl yet: "All I Really Want to Do," "To Ramona," "Mr. Tambourine Man" and "Chimes of Freedom." The pressure must have been enormous for Dylan to perform the expected ("Blowin' in the Wind," "The Times They Are A-Changin'," etc.). But Bob stuck to his guns and sang exactly what he wanted. He finally did relent, however, and return for an encore with Joan Baez on "With God On Our Side."

Program measures 8 ½" x 11" and grades to Very Good Plus condition. With programs, it's often the same old story... the front & back covers are a little roughed up for existing in storage for over 60 years... whereas all of the inside pages are crispy mint. Such is the case here. The front cover has no damage, but the back cover has some grime & scuffing and an uneven toning shadow in the lower left area. From the Archives of Charlie Rothschild. Charlie Rothschild is a music manager with a career that spanned decades. In his early career, Charlie booked musical acts at Gerde's Folk City in Greenwich Village, most notably Bob Dylan in September 1961, Dylan's first paid gig in New York City. He went on to work for renowned manager Albert Grossman (Dylan, Peter, Paul & Mary, Janis Joplin). As a manager, touring manager and concert promoter himself, Charlie worked alongside folk and rock 'n' roll greats Bob Dylan, the Velvet Underground, Gordon Lightfoot, Judy Collins, Peter, Paul & Mary, Allen Ginsberg, Ian & Sylvia, The Clancy Brothers, Odetta, The Fugs and Pearls Before Swine, among others. Charlie also ran the storied 1960's New York City music venue Balloon Farm, before going out on his own in 1972.
