An extraordinary and historically significant archive from Academy Award-winning producer Fred Roos, documenting the preproduction, production, and postproduction of The Godfather Part II-widely seen as one of the greatest sequels in film history. This unparalleled collection, consisting of over 100 original documents from Roos' personal working files, offers an inside look at the business, casting, and creative process behind the landmark film. The archive also includes copies of signed contracts for Robert De Niro, Al Pacino, Robert Duvall, and Diane Keaton, studio budget breakdowns comparing Parts I and II, Roos' handwritten drafts of the film's end title sequence, carbon copies of letters to Al Pacino and Lee Strasberg, internal memos and official correspondence from Roos, Francis Ford Coppola, and Paramount executive Peter Bart, Roos' handwritten notes dated July 13, 1974 with script feedback and suggested edits, casting notes regarding John Cazale and references to American Graffiti screenings, documents related to the film's Sicily sequences including location casting and logistics, Telexes about production, contract negotiations, materials regarding the film's television release, and numerous additional production notes, annotations, and studio documents throughout-making this one of the most comprehensive surviving Godfather Part II archives and an essential behind-the-scenes record from one of the key architects of its success.
