SEVENTY-SEVEN-YEAR-OLD MINNIE THE MOOCHER MASTERPIECE

Cab Calloway 1947 Hi-De-Ho Large One-Sheet Movie Poster. An original, post-World War II one-sheet movie poster for Hi-De-Ho, an American race movie that featured an all-Black cast and played predominantly in African-American theaters in the day. The big star was Cab Calloway, whose hit record "Minnie the Moocher" spawned the movie's memorable and hooky title.

This commanding poster was printed in blue & orange on thin white paper, and has graphics as spectacular as the song and movie. There are posters that look & feel their age, and then there's this. With concert posters, you usually have to love the music to have it up in your home; with this centerpiece, all ages would appreciate and marvel at the poster itself.

Movie posters are routinely, in fact usually, backed on some safety material because they were printed on such thin paper and meant to last five minutes. So this Cab was meticulously mounted to a thin white backing board, which means it can stand up by itself for fun display before it gets framed. A lovely, lovely piece that we greatly enjoyed stepping out of the (concert poster) box with. Measures 28" x 41" and grades to repaired Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Cab Calloway stars as himself in this musical tale filled with gangsters, night clubs, and jealousy in a plot inspired by Cab's biggest hit, "Minnie the Moocher." Mainly a vehicle for Calloway and his talented orchestra, this film featured other great jazz songs of the day like "St. James' Infirmary" and an a cappella version of "Minnie Was a Hep Cat," as well as performances by the sonorous Peters Sisters, the tap dancing Miller Brothers, and an appearance by Dusty Fletcher in a presentation of his famous sketch, "Open the Door, Richard."

Condition details: The piece has factory folds like all old movie posters, and right in the middle they tore a hole which has been blended in to color match. Corrections have been made to fold wear, pinholes, small tears, and a chip on the right edge. Heavy toning to the white paper.
