Description

B.B. King, Etta James, Impressions, Gladys Knight & Pips 1962 Jumbo Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising a strong line-up of talent at Chicago's Regal Theatre for a week starting on Friday night, January 26, 1962. Comedienne Moms Mabley co-headlined, on the strength of placing three albums in Billboard's Top LPs chart in 1961. Etta James had a great 1961 as well, with three Top 10 R&B hits including the timeless "At Last." ("Seven Day Fool" was her latest offering but didn't chart.) B.B. King certainly needs no introduction, a tremendous blues anchor for this line-up. Dee Clark was enjoying the fruits of his #2 pop hit "Raindrops" in '61.

Barbara George was the hottest act on the bill, with her big pop hit "I Know (You Don't Love Me No More)" sitting at #3 in Billboard this very week. Curtis Mayfield and the Impressions were just coming off their Top 20 pop hit (and #2 R&B), "Gypsy Woman." And future Rock and Roll Hall-of-Famers (like Etta, B.B. and Curtis) Gladys Knight & The Pips had enjoyed the Top 10 Pop hit "Every Beat of My Heart" the year before, but would need five more years before blowing up with "I Heard It Through the Grapevine." This jumbo board measures 22" x 28" and grades to Very Good Plus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.
