Description
The Jackson 5 (Michael Jackson 10 Years Old), Stevie Wonder 1968 Chicago, IL Concert Poster. An original concert-advertising window card from the famous Regal Theatre in Chicago, IL selling tickets for headliner Stevie Wonder and support act The Jackson 5 for a week of shows commencing on Thanksgiving Day, Thursday, November 28, 1968.This is a stunning and previously unknown poster until it was turned up in a small group of unused Chicago concert posters a few years ago. "Regal" and "Stevie Wonder" are presented in big, beautiful, catchy red color, there's a brilliantly sharp photo of Stevie with his oversized harmonica, and then you've got The Jackson 5 right under his name... featuring a 10-year-old Michael Jackson. It's a breathtaking find for any fan of Motown, soul music or just plain great musical artistry. Anyone care to count up the number of records Stevie and Michael have sold between them? Five minutes of Google research told us about half a billion.
The J5, by the way, would not start hitting the charts until a full year after this... Thanksgiving 1969 with "I Want You Back" on Motown. Stevie, on the other hand, was sitting in the national Top 10 this week with "For Once in My Life." Earlier this year, he had done the same with "Shoo-Be-Doo-Be-Doo-Da-Day." Measures 22" x 28" and grades to Near Mint condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.
More Information: Ironically, although blown away by the competition, Johnny Taylor is also right under Stevie's name, and this very week he held the bragging rights: Taylor's "Who's Making Love" was one spot ahead of "For Once in My Life" on Billboard's pop singles chart, sitting at #6. Taylor would burn up the R&B charts for about the next 10 years.
Syl Johnson is one of the bottom-billed acts here. He had a Top 10 R&B hit in 1975 with "Take Me to the River," which the Talking Heads notably covered at the end of the 70's.
Condition details: The only real flaw is a surface ‘push' to the top white paper on the lower right margin to the right of (the blue) "Jackson." So there's that imperfection, and a small amount of dirt in the yellow above "5" in "Jackson 5" and below the "V" in "Thanksgiving." Just terrific condition.
