Description

Mojo Men, Harpers Bizarre 1967 Santa Clara, CA Concert Poster Graded 10 Gem Mint (AOR-2.346). First-printing San Francisco Bay-Area concert poster for the Mojo Men, Harpers Bizarre and the Chocolate Watchband playing at the Continental Auditorium in Santa Clara, CA on Saturday night, February 18, 1967.

The Mojo Men's only Top 40 hit, a cover of Buffalo Springfield's "Sit Down, I Think I Love You," had just entered Billboard magazine's Hot 100 this month. The same was true for Harpers Bizarre: Their only Top 20 hit, a cover of Simon & Garfunkel's "The 59th Street Bridge Song (Feelin' Groovy)," had just entered Billboard this month. And the Chocolate Watchband were a psychedelic garage-rock band from nearby Los Altos who never broke through nationally, but were very popular in the Bay Area.

Measuring 14" x 20", this poster has been graded a mojo-working 10 Gem Mint by CGC (the Certified Guarantee Company). Originally from the KC Murphy Bindweed Press Collection, with Pedigree in the grading strip. COA from Heritage Auctions.

Literature: See Grushkin, Paul, The Art of Rock: Posters from Presley to Punk, Abbeville Press, New York, 1987, p.233 (illus.).

More Information: The promoter was Bill Hamilton and the poster artist is given as "Cannon/67."
