Description
Grateful Dead 1979 Kansas City, KS "Maiden Voyage" Concert Poster (AOR-4.203). An original B&W paper concert poster advertising "two incredible evenings" with the Grateful Dead, performing at Memorial Hall in Kansas City, Kansas on Friday and Saturday nights, February 9 & 10, 1979. Tickets were $9.00 and $10.00, and showtime was 7:00 PM "Promptly."This was the Dead touring off their last two albums, Terrapin Station and Shakedown Street. These were among the very last shows with band members Keith and Donna Godchaux, who resigned from the Dead this month. This first-ever Heritage offering measures 17" x 20 7/8" and grades to Very Good Plus condition. From the Tim Backstrom Grateful Dead Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.
Literature: See Grushkin, Paul, The Art of Rock: Posters from Presley to Punk, Abbeville Press, New York, 1987, p.398 (illus.).
More Information: Poster had a slight ½" edge tear about ¼ of the way down the poster's left edge, which has been professionally mended. There is also a 1/8" inconsequential edge tear, unaddressed, directly over from the word "Kansas." Both show minute amounts of white, but mostly get lost in the starry B&W poster design. There's also a light 3" horizontal crease in the lower left corner area.
