Description

The Rolling Stones 1973 Honolulu, HI Bill Graham Concert Poster Graded 9.8 (AOR-4.147). An original first-printing concert poster for the Rolling Stones playing at the Honolulu International Center in Hawaii on Sunday and Monday, January 21 & 22, 1973. At Mick Jagger's request, the barely known Texas band ZZ Top opened all three shows and got encores every time, a major early confidence-booster for Billy Gibbons & Co. Measuring 20 1/4" x 28 1/2", this specimen has been graded a very-big-deal 9.8 Near Mint/Mint by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company). COA from Heritage Auctions.

Literature: See Grushkin, Paul, The Art of Rock: Posters from Presley to Punk, Abbeville Press, New York, 1987, p.379 (illus.).

More Information: The poster features striking artwork of "Wild Horses" running through water in a seemingly magical kingdom setting, with rainbow colors and scores of birds frolicking about.

Bill Graham and Denver-based Barry Fey co-promoted the three shows (one on Sunday and two on Monday), which kicked off the band's brief tour of New Zealand and Australia.
