An original first-printing concert poster for England's Cream, with a rendition of guitarist Eric Clapton dominating the graphics, performing along with Mike Bloomfield's Electric Flag at Robertson Gym at UCSB in Santa Barbara, California on Friday night, May 24, 1968. Created by Chuck Miller, this poster has been graded a strong 9.0 Very Fine/Near Mint by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company). Measures 16 5/8" x 21 3/4". From the David Swartz Concert Poster Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

Literature: See Grushkin, Paul, The Art of Rock: Posters from Presley to Punk, Abbeville Press, New York, 1987, p.268 (illus.).

More Information: This is an extremely catchy poster that artist Miller had a lot of fun with. It's interesting how he handled the co-top-billing of the two groups, with the Electric Flag listed on top and getting a starry banner, and then with Cream listed second but with bigger lettering, and of course Clapton stealing the visuals. Meanwhile you've got a tiny Snoopy from Peanuts saying "Let's get it on" and the caveman from B.C. quoting a line from "All Along the Watchtower." The starry banner up top has "One for Bloomfield" tucked away in one of the silver stars, and even Clapton himself may be the one saying "Zonk." It's just fun from top to bottom.
