Description

Grateful Dead 1969 Washington University, St. Louis Silkscreened Concert Poster. An original silkscreened concert poster on thick black parchment-like paper for the Grateful Dead and Alvin Pivil performing in the Quad at Washington University in St. Louis, Missouri on Thursday night, April 17, 1969.

This is really a beautiful poster with unusual but sublime aesthetics. The thickness of the robust paper stock, the gold, blue and silver coloring, the creative image which is far more than just the band, the Dead themselves peering out at you, and that silver ticket information at the bottom add up to a very striking poster. Measures 16 1/2" x 23" and grades to Very Good condition. From the Tim Backstrom Grateful Dead Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: The poster has creasing present and even some past crumpling in a couple of places... in the upper left corner but not in the "W.U." or "G," and in the upper right corner intersecting the last "D" in "Dead." Due to the nature of the thick blue paper stock, these defects are not that noticeable... from the front, they come across more like just some ‘waviness.' There are poster-wide horizontal creases across the top, mostly above "Grateful Dead," and near the bottom, through the blue of the band but not any silver words. Oddly there's only one tack hole, in the upper left corner on the silver line. Then there are three pinholes... in the lower left on a silver line, lower right on the extreme edge, and in the blue to the left of "$1.50."
