Vintage gelatin silver semi-gloss double-weight 8" x 10" exhibition photograph (glue tipped on 11" x 14" artist board) of Janis Joplin at her East Coast debut with her band Big Brother and the Holding Company at the Newport Folk Festival, Newport, Rhode Island, July 27, 1968, by David Gahr, titled and signed in black ink on the recto margin. This was the rare moment of primal frisson when everything came together: just before the sensation that was the release their classic album, Cheap Thrills - Joplin would vacate the band by December - she was the headliner at the festival everyone came to see.
