FD-6 Big Brother & Holding Co. 1966 Avalon Ballroom Concert Poster Graded 9.8. First-and-only-printing San Francisco concert poster for Big Brother and the Holding Company, the Grass Roots and the Sons of Adam playing at the Avalon Ballroom on Friday and Saturday nights, April 29 & 30, 1966. Known as FD-6 in the Family Dog numbered series, this poster was designed by the legendary Wes Wilson, and graded a sinfully good 9.8 Near Mint/Mint by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company). Measures 14" x 20". COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: "This may be the quintessential psychedelic poster," states Eric King in his popular poster guide. "It has all the elements which drove the establishment crazy: sex, drugs, rock 'n' roll and vibrating colors."

The fact that this poster's shows were canceled seems to phase nobody. "It's possible that no psychedelic poster has a greater mystique attached to it than 'Sin Dance,'" King says in his book. "That [the concerts were] canceled not only didn't detract from its mystique, it added to it.

"This is one of the main reasons why, for a generation, the American art establishment refused to have anything to do with this art form. They considered it the sex-obsessed ravings of drug-addicted, filthy hippies. Now [in hindsight], no matter how naïve the counterculture... might have been about the consequences of immersing oneself in sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll, these works are the most vibrantly alive and powerful graphic art of the 20th century."
