Original matte painting from The Picture of Dorian Gray. (MGM, 1945) Vintage black and white matte painting accomplished in pencil, gouache, chalk and charcoal on 28 x 22 in. artist board. Depicting a ramshackle London slum on the banks of the river from the horror-drama The Picture of Dorian Gray starring George Sanders, Donna Reed, Hurd Hatfield and Angela Lansbury. An artfully dark and atmospheric piece featuring a nighttime cityscape of dilapidated lean-tos and shacks with ships on the river in the background. With space in the slum blacked-out for keying in of live-action and with handwritten technical specs and scenic notes in borders. Exhibiting minor signs of production-use and age. In vintage, very good condition.
