Description
Marilyn Monroe "Peasant Sitting 65" mammoth exhibition print by Milton H. Greene. (May 1954/printed later) Original inkjet 40 x 40 in. print on fiber-based baryta 310gsm photo paper. Rifling through the 20th Century-Fox prop closet during one of those glorious Sunday afternoons on the studio backlots, Milton and Marilyn photographed the Peasant Sitting. Taken on May 24, 1954, this series was created on the French village set used for What Price Glory. Milton believed in Marilyn's ability to be a dramatic actress and to prove it to her, he photographed her in the costume that Jennifer Jones wore in her Oscar-winning performance in The Song of Bernadette. Over time, he began portraying Marilyn as different characters. They loved the fact she played a saint, an inside joke that Marilyn and Milton found humorous. Later photos in this series show Marilyn prepping her makeup along with her long-time makeup artist Allan "Whitey" Snyder. Retaining photographer's estate stamp, signed by Joshua Greene, and hand edition numbered "2/7" on the verso. Accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
