Description

Janis Joplin/BBHC, Charlatans & Blue Cheer 1967 S.F. Medical Clinic Fillmore Benefit Poster. An original charity-dance advertising poster for Big Brother and the Holding Company with Janis Joplin, the Charlatans, Blue Cheer and Triple-A appearing at the Fillmore Auditorium on Monday, July 31, 1967. The show was to benefit a "free medical clinic" without any other information given. A very unusual poster that's seldom seen, with artwork credited to "Baby Jerry." The poster had no ticket information when printed, so some has been added by hand down in the deep blue at the bottom which has become a little obscured with the passage of time. Under Triple-A it appears to say, "Wild Colors, Print Mint, Moe's Book Store," obviously ticket-buying locations. And then under the date in a different pen it says, "Donation $2.00 at the door." Measures a shade under 17" x 22" and grades to repaired Very Good condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Chameleon Restoration did much repairing to the corner areas and edges, with the evidence of their work easily seen on the verso. The front shows some signs, such as little white blotches near the right edge above the red waves, in the upper left corner area and perhaps in the blue below. Unusual parchment-like paper and quality of the printing make it hard to tell. Some light black smearing in the lower right corner of the red waves.
