John Coltrane 1961 Apollo Theater, Harlem, New York Concert Handbill. An original B&W paper advertising handbill for the legendary John Coltrane appearing for a week at the equally legendary Apollo Theatre in Harlem, Manhattan, New York beginning on Friday, March 17, 1961. It's the photo of Coltrane that totally makes this piece, because usually his posters & handbills did not carry his picture. "The Jazz World's Outstanding Sax Star" it says above his name; and then, "Winner of Every Jazz Poll." Indeed. This was an "Afro Jazz Spectacular" week hosted by a local DJ, and Miriam Makeba grabbed the top billing. This unusual two-sided flyer, with the exact same image on both sides, measures 8 1/2" x 11" and grades to Near Mint Minus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: The flyer's top has some ruffling, as if it may have gotten moist at some point in the past and completely dried out. The upper corners also have very light creasing, of a quarter-inch or less. Very light general toning throughout.
