The Crusades (Paramount, 1935), Dan Sayre Groesbeck Pair of Concept Artworks. Vintage pair of concept artworks by Dan Sayre Groesbeck including (1) "Saladin Cutting A Silk Scarf" rendered in ink and wash on art board measuring 27.25" x 21.75" and (1) "Saladin Confronts Crowd" rendered in charcoal and graphite on art board measuring 26" x 20.5". These two early concept drawings feature scenes (with minor changes) that made it to the final edit of the film. Groesbeck worked with DeMille consistently through the making of Samson and Delilah (1949) until health issues kept him from working on The Greatest Show on Earth (1952). Artwork exhibits production wear and exhibition wear including vestiges of adhesive and tearing from matting. "Saladin Confronts Crowd" has a 5.5" section of mat on lower right corner that was removed. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
