Description

Donald Pleasance "U.S. President John Harker" Large Signature Fiberglass Presidential Air Force One Egg-Shaped Evacuation Pod from Escape from New York (AVCO, 1981) and Orkan Spacecraft from Mork & Mindy (ABC TV 1978-1982). This distinctive extra large, signature egg-shaped evacuation pod was boarded by Donald Pleasance when he evacuated Air Force One after it was hijacked by insurgents, in John Carpenter's dystopian film, Escape from New York. The rescue of the President and discovery of the location of the escape pod egg, that crash-landed in the middle of Manhattan, that had been transformed into a maximum-security prison, was a central plot point of the film's storyline and features in two key scenes. In its original specification as the presidential escape pod, it was outfitted with electronics mounted on the inner hatch door. The electronics were subsequently removed and the egg was then repurposed to promote Season 4 of the comedy sci-fi television series, Mork & Mindy, when the two characters were expecting a baby. Constructed of fiberglass, it features a large front entrance hatch that opens to reveal a cockpit with large gray vinyl seat and padded interior. The hatch is accessed via a large removable hinged door. The spacecraft was carefully restored in the 2000s by Mr. Chris Koon. It exhibits only light wear commensurate with age and production use, and presents in Very Fine condition overall. Measures 84 in. long x 53 in. diameter. The spacecraft travels on a custom-made rolling dolly.
