Description

Back to the Future (Universal, 1985), "Marvin Berry and the Starlighters" Bandmember Costume Sketch from the "Enchantment Under the Sea" Sequence by Deborah L. Scott. Original costume sketch accomplished in graphite and ink pen by costume designer Deborah L. Scott. Rendered on 11.5" x 15.25" paper, the sketch features a bandmember wearing the signature silver/gray tuxedo jacket with dark rounded lapels, dark slacks, gray & black plaid pattern cummerbund and tie, the ensemble prominently seen worn by the bandmembers of "Marvin Berry and the Starlighters" during the "Enchantment Under the Sea" sequences. Pinned to the right of the sketch are fabric swatches for the jacket (3.5" x 2") and cummerbund/tie (2" x 1"). Production notes in pencil are written at the top, "Marvin & The Midnighters" [sic] / Enchantment Under the Sea" and signed by the costume designer, "C.D. D.L. Scott" at the bottom left. Adhered to the right of the sketch are four photocopies of unknown bands from the 1950s which served as inspiration for the design. Sketch is mounted on 17" x 21.75" black construction paper with an original black & white production still depicting Marty McFly (Michael J. Fox) with the bandmembers. Sketch exhibits light handling with 1/8" chip present at the lower right margin (not affecting image); construction paper backing has chipping along top and mounting remnants on verso. From the personal collection of Academy Award-winning costume designer Deborah L. Scott. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
