Description

Patsy Cline 1957 ("Walkin' After Midnight") Concert Poster w/Porter Wagoner. An original cardboard advertising window card for a young Patsy Cline on tour with four other C&W musicians in 1957, the year she first hit with "Walkin' After Midnight" in the spring.

Joining Patsy were headliner Porter Wagoner, who was only three years into his lengthy Hall-of-Fame career; consistent hitmaker Jimmy Newman, whose biggest career hit, "A Fallen Star," had come that summer; and Bobby Helms, who had two #1 country hits this year plus the release of his lifetime-evergreen single "Jingle Bell Rock" in December.

Also on the bill, in smaller letters, was Capitol Records' Joe Red Hayes, who never broke thru as a recording artist but co-wrote "A Satisfied Mind," which Porter Wagoner had taken to #1 C&W two years earlier. It easily turned into an evergreen itself when it was eventually recorded by (take a deep breath) Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, The Byrds, Ella Fitzgerald, Glen Campbell, Tim Hardin, Lucinda Williams, Lindsey Buckingham, Jeff Buckley, Marty Stuart, Johnny Cash, Rosanne Cash, Willie Nelson and Led Zeppelin's Robert Plant.

And he was bottom-billed?

The show took place at the J.R. Ranch in the tiny town of Castile in western New York state on Friday, October 11, 1957.

Measures a tad under 14" x 22" and grades to Very Good condition. Poster is unused, but was quarter-folded down to fit into a file cabinet, and the horizontal crease is more than one line, it's several, and it goes right through Patsy's name. The good news is, none of the black color in her name is broken at all. The vertical crease is much less severe. The white is a bit toned and the corners a little soft from six decades of storage. The verso was reinforced with wide cello tape a long time ago, and "1957" was written in red down in the corner. There's also a quarter-inch margin tear to the left of "Porter." Finally, not damage but a printer's flaw, the red ink ran a little bit on the long vertical bar on the poster's far right. COA from Heritage Auctions.
