A Set of Original Pre-Production Set Drawings from "The Good Earth." Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, 1937. The first rendered in charcoal on cardboard, depicting a headshot of actor Paul Muni (though it's not how he looked in the film), surface shellacked, unsigned but created by Hollywood sketch artist, Joseph Hayse Goodwin, for the Academy Award-winning film that co-starred Luise Rainer; the second rendered in gouache on cardboard, depicting a city street scene in China, surface shellacked, signed in the lower right corner "J. Hayse Goodwin / '37;" both works from The Estate of Joseph Hayse Goodwin as consigned by his family.
