Description

Dr. Strangelove: or How I Learned to Stop Worrying and Love the Bomb (Columbia, 1964), Terry Southern's Personal Writer's Guild of America Screen Writer's Award Plaque. Vintage original Writers Guild of America award plaque presented to Terry Southern for his work on Dr. Strangelove. Director Stanley Kubrick chose Southern for the project after actor Peter Sellers recommended him, impressed by Southern's 1959 novel The Magic Christian. Southern co-wrote the screenplay with Kubrick and Peter George, whose 1958 Cold War thriller Red Alert served as the film's basis. Though originally conceived as a serious drama, Kubrick's collaboration with satirist Southern and comedian Sellers transformed it into a landmark black comedy. This award commemorates the film's recognition as "Best Written American Comedy of 1964" and stands as a testament to its legacy as one of cinema's greatest screen comedies and most successful writer-director collaborations. The plaque measures approximately 12" x 7.75" and is composed of a wood base with a mounted brass plate. Exhibits light surface scratching to both plate and wood. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. From the Collection of Terry Southern.
