Collection of Terry Southern's Rare Books, Letter to Stanley Kubrick, Early Beat Publications, and Related Works. Vintage original collection of (21) books and literary journals from the personal archive of Terry Southern, spanning 1949 to 1991 and reflecting his deep ties to postwar literature, counterculture, and avant-garde publishing. Included are (1) Rhapsody: A Dream Novel by Arthur Schnitzler, accompanied by a 3-page photocopied typed letter to Stanley Kubrick referencing a scene that would later inspire his final movie Eyes Wide Shut, (1) Zero Magazine: A Quarterly Review of Literature and Art No. 2 (1949) and (1) Nos. 3-4 (1949-50), featuring an entry by Jean Genet, (1) The Empire Finals at Verona by Jonathan Williams and Fielding Dawson (1957), (1) Naked Lunch by William S. Burroughs, Traveller's Companion edition (1959), (1) Beatitude No. 15 (1960) featuring Allen Ginsberg, (1) American Express by Gregory Corso (1961), (1) Extremism (A Non-Book) by David Newman and Robert Benton (1964), (1) Chinese Moonlight by Walasse Ting (1967), with additional (2) sheets of painted nude images on Stamp paper, (1) Endangered Faeces Magazine No. 18 (1975), (4) issues of Olympia: A Monthly Review from Paris featuring Southern's "Spy's Corner" column (ca. 1970s), (1) dotzero No. 299 (undated), (1) Computer Lib / Dream Machines by Ted Nelson (ca. 1974), (1) Grass Roots: Marijuana in America Today by Albert Goldman (1979), inscribed "For Terry - / One of the Weed's / authentic, red-dirt country / singers. / From ye Ole Fess / Albert," (1) The Woman Thing by Harriet Daimler (1985), and copy of (1) The Green Fuse: A Memoir by Lita Hornick (1991), inscribed "To Terry Southern / with love and affection / Lita Hornick / Sept 22, 1991". Books and magazines range in size from approx. 5.5" x 8.5" to 9" x 12", and exhibit various signs of age including faded pages, sun damage, bumped corners, edge wear, loose covers, and general handling wear.
